Dr. Sung is a retired Staff Research Engineer from the General Motors Research & Development Center in Warren, Michigan. Since her retirement, Dr. Sung has been involved in community service and charitable work with the Michigan Chinese Women Association (MCWA) from 2008-2010. She served as a Board Director and was the 2009-2010 President of MCWA. As a past MCWA president, she continues to participate in senior housing visits and cooking for homeless shelters with her fellow MCWA friends and Board Members.
She joined the Association of Chinese Americans (ACA) as a Board Director in 2011 and served as Treasurer from 2013-2014. She also chaired ACA’s 40th Anniversary Annual Celebration Planning Committee in 2012. Dr. Sung volunteered as a Citizenship Class teacher and participated in several ACA cultural events. She collaborated extensively with local metro-Detroit Asian organizations that sponsored/carried out several important community events. Her academic background, community service, and networking experience enables her to contribute to the development of ACA in mentoring youth, caring for seniors, and bridging the gap of disparities. Dr. Sung is deeply involved in health awareness training through Taiji exercise. She volunteers as a Taiji coach and as an assistant to the ACA Taiji group to serve the community and to spread the Chinese culture/art to mainstream society. During several local school field trips to the CCC, she volunteered to teach Taiji to the students who are studying a Chinese curriculum. At Metro Detroit Chinese Alliance Church, she is also a substitute teacher to adult students learning Chinese.
Dr. Sung holds a BS degree in Civil Engineering from National Taiwan University and MS and PhD degrees in Aeronautical Engineering from Purdue University. She is a member of several technical socieities including the American Society of Mechanical Engineering (ASME), Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), Acoustical Society of America (ASA), and the International Noise Control Engineering (INCE). Dr. Sung is also an ASME Fellow and has authored numerous technical papers and holds several U.S. patents and pending patents. She is currently co-editing a textbook on Engineering Vibroacoustic Analysis to be published by John Wiley Publisher in 2015. Besides her community service work, Dr. Sung still actively contributes to technical publications and technical society conferences.
