ACA High School Achievement Award Scholarship Program

This is the 37th year that Association of Chinese Americans (ACA) has offered scholarships to local high school students. For the Class of 2021, we will offer a total of seventeen scholarships to students, who reside in Michigan, and are interested in serving the Chinese American community, or are Chinese American, or are of Chinese ancestry.

Most of the scholarships require the students to have a minimum of 3.8 GPA or better on a scale of 4.0 or equivalent.  Standard test scores (ACT/SAT/PSAT) are highly encouraged.  There are specific criteria to meet for some of the scholarships.  Please see the details listed below:

 

Association of Chinese American Scholarship

Number of scholarship: 3

Amount: $500-$1,000 each

Criteria:  Best all-around, leadership and community service

 

Mr. & Mrs. P.L. Siak Scholarship

Number of scholarship: 1 

Amount: $1,000

Criteria:   Physical disability and/or overcome hardship – achieved excellent academic result with preferably a 3.5 GPA on a scale of 4.0 or equivalent (exceptions may be granted on a case-by-case basis) while overcoming major difficulties in life, such as a physical disability, or constraints, or major illness for an extended period of time.   

 

Andy Wong Scholarship 

Number of scholarship: 1 

Amount: $1,000

Criteria:  General scholarship with preference given to those who have more than three kids in the family  

 

Ya-Chun Tao Chen Memorial Scholarship 

Number of scholarship: 2

Amount: $500-$1,000 each 

Criteria:  Best all-around, leadership and community service 

 

O.S. Chan Scholarship

Number of scholarship: 1 

Amount: $1,000  

Criteria:  General scholarship with focus on applicant’s athletic achievement

 

O.S. Chan Scholarship

Number of scholarship: 1 

Amount: $1,000  

Criteria:  General scholarship with focus on applicant’s innovation and Entrepreneurship

 

O.S. Chan/ACA Scholarship

Number of scholarship: 1 

Amount: $1,000 each   

Criteria:  General scholarship with focus on applicant’s achievement in Fine Arts

 

Lehren Education Scholarship

Number of scholarship: 1

Amount: $1000 each

Criteria:  Financial challenges – needs to achieve excellent academic result with preferably a 3.5 GPA on a scale of 4.0 

 

168 Asian Mart Scholarship 

Number of scholarship: 1 

Amount: $500

Criteria:  Best all-around, leadership and community service 

 

Page Automotive Scholarship 

Number of scholarship: 2

Amount: $500 

Criteria: #1: Community service and #2 Physical disability and/or overcome hardship – achieved excellent academic result with preferably a 3.5 GPA on a scale of 4.0 or equivalent (exceptions may be granted on a case-by-case basis) while overcoming major difficulties in life, such as a physical disability, or constraints, or major illness for an extended period of time.

Mabel Peng Memorial Scholarship

Number of scholarship: 1 

Amount: $500

Criteria:  Best academic record and test scores and demonstrated leadership in extracurricular and/or community activities

 

Mr. & Mrs. Leon Zheng Scholarship

Number of scholarship: 2 

Amount: $500 each

Criteria:  Financial challenges – needs to achieve excellent academic result with preferably a 3.5 GPA on a scale of 4.0 

 

The Scholarship Recipient Selection Process

 All applicants need to submit an on-line application form.  All transcripts must be submitted by school counselor to scholarships@acaccc.org.  All scholarship applications and transcripts must be submitted to ACA by Monday, Sept 21, 2020.  Each nominee will be required to express their college plans, career goals, and interest in serving the Asian American community in a 15-minute interview with the High School Achievements Awards Committee on Sunday, October 18, 2020.  Finalists (honorees) selected will be notified via email to attend the ACA High School Scholarship Program Award Ceremony on Sunday, November 8, 2020.  Both the interview and award banquet will be held online or if situation allows, in-person at the Chinese Community Center located at 32585 Concord Drive, Madison Heights, MI 48071.  Scholarship award recipients will be announced at the ceremony. The decision of the Committee is final.
