Shenlin Chen

President / H.S. Scholarship Chair / OCA Representative

Shenlin serves on the AARP Executive Council and is currently ACA’s Executive Vice President. She has extensive experience in administration, education, and management.  Under her leadership, she successfully expanded ACA’s services and programs spreading geographically from the City of Detroit to elsewhere throughout the metropolitan area.

 

 

 

 

Sharon Dow

Executive Vice-President

Sharon Dow works at Chrysler Group, LLC as Data Architect in Information and Communications Technology.  She served as president of the Michigan Chinese Women Association (MCWA) from 2011 to 2012.  She is current president of the Chinese American Society of Ann Arbor (CASAA), and Communications Committee chair for the Council of Asian Pacific Americans. With her artistic passion, she organized the Wind Dance Chinese Cultural Group in 2012.

 

 

Gloria Zhao

Treasurer / OCA Representative

Zhao served on the board of directors of Executive Women International’s Detroit-Windsor Chapter as its Treasurer from 2011 to 2013. She is a member of the American Insitutue of Certified Public Accountants, and the Michigan Association of Certified Public Accountants.

 

Roland Hwang

Secretary / OCA Representative

Roland Hwang retired from the Michigan Department of Attorney General. He has served as a hearing referee for the Michigan Department of Civil Rights, and served as chair of the State Advisory Committee to the US Commission on Civil Rights. He served as ACA President from 1982-1983 and most recently served two terms on the ACA Board from 2008 until 2013. He also has chaired and served on the ACA Scholarship Committee.

 

Joyce (Yihong) Li

Executive Director

Joyce (Yihong) Li joined the Association of Chinese Americans as Fiscal Officer in 2007. As the Executive Director, Joyce is not only working hard to maintain the expanded ACA programs and its four service centers throughout the metropolitan Detroit area, but also actively exploring opportunities for new programs and collaboration with corporate sponsors.

 

 

 

Charles Liu

Board of Directors 

Charles is committed to promoting the education of children in the community and emphasizing the importance of parents’ growth. He is also very active in the interaction and support of various Chinese groups. He has served as ACA’s volunteer photographer for several events.  

 

 

David Chang

Board of Directors

David Chang currently is the Senior Vice President and Chief Enterprise Agility and Business Platforms Officer for Comerica Bank.  He is a seasoned executive with over 20 years of business and technology strategy, and program delivery experience in the automotive, high tech, aerospace and defense, and financial services industries.  He is currently leading several transformation initiatives at Comerica Bank including Contact Center Transformation and the implementation of agile and DevOps practices. David previously worked at General Motors in Information Technology and Accenture as a management consultant. David earned his Bachelors in Aerospace Engineering from Princeton University and a Masters in Business Administration from UCLA. David is married to May and they have an 18-year-old son, Kevin. David enjoys travel, swimming, and spending time with family and friends. 

 

Tess Tchou

Board of Directors

Tess’s professional and personal interests are reflected in her current community involvements. She is the Membership Chair of the Detroit Women’s Forum, a Steering Committee member of the North Rosedale Park Civic Association Legacy Project, and one of the directors of the board of  Philippine American Foundation, Inc. Her career background includes positions at the University of Michigan – first, as a Sr. Instructional Associate (School of Dentistry), and later as  the Filipino Program Coordinator at Healthy Asian Americans Project (School of Nursing). She also worked as Executive Director of the Tri-County Dental Health Council, a member agency of United Foundation – United Community Services (more familiar today as the Community Foundation of Southeast Michigan).

 

Tim Wei

Board of Directors

Mr. Tim (Yu Ting) Wei is currently an associate attorney at Hirmiz, Franso & Associates, PLLC. He specializes in Intellectual Property Law, Immigration Law, and Contract Law. He is on the Board of Directors of the Asian Center Southeast Michigan, the Taiwanese Chamber of Commerce of Greater Detroit, and other community groups as well.

 

 

 

 

Lily Van Laere

Board of Directors

Dr. Lily Huang Van Laere is Senior Staff Ophthalmologist at Henry Ford Health Systems. She received her bachelor of arts at Washington University in St. Louis, and her M.D. degree at Case Western Reserve University. She is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the Michigan Society of Eye Physicians and Surgeons. 

 

 

 

 

 

Elinor Ho

Board of Directors / Principal Advisor

Elinor Ho is a Chartered Financial Consultant and a Chartered Special Needs Consultant who has been engaged in wealth management services since 1994. Elinor strives to help special needs families, professionals, small business owners and retirees retirecomfortably and confidently by utilizing asset preservation strategies, risk management and hand-holding them through life’s transitions.

 

 

 

 

 

Robert L. Rothman

Board of Directors

Robert L. Rothman, a former two-term ACA Board Member, is a Principal at Privacy Associates International LLC and an adjunct professor at the Thomas M Cooley Law School.  He was formerly with General Motors where he held various positions including Chief Privacy Officer, Vice President and General Counsel of GM International Operations and General Counsel of Delphi.  Mr. Rothman holds a JD from Ohio State, an MBA from Duke, and an AB in Chinese from Michigan.

 

 

 

 

 

Jie Wang

Board of Directors

Soprano Jie Wang was trained in Virtuosity at the Conservatory of Lausanne, Switzerland.  She has over thirty years of teaching experience.  She currently serves as the Board of Directors, Cranbrook Music Guild. She is also a member of the Tuesday Musicale.  She was invited to play as Madam Qianxiong Wu in opera “Headstrong” at the Ford House and performed at the DSO Max M Fisher Music Center with the University Orchestra in 2016.  Over the years, she directed an adult Choir “The Sound of Spring”, Children’s Choir, and Seniors’ Choir for the community.  She held a voice recital “East & West” at the University of Michigan and led a fundraising concert for the Association of Chinese Americans, Inc. in 2018.  She loves serving the community and has been active on the stage in the Metro Detroit area.

 

 

 

 

Ling Wen

Board of Directors

Ling Wen became enthusiastic about real estate in 2012 and in 2019 became an Associate Broker at Michigan’s largest real estate company Real Estate One.  Previous to real estate, she worked at the National Government Services as a Medicare Auditor where her background in health care systems and accounting contributed success in her role.  Ling Wen graduated at National Taipei University of Business, major in International business.  For 15 years, she taught Chinese at Southern Michigan Chinese School.  During that time she was honored to be the president of Michigan Chinese Educator from 1999-2003.  She was involved in many national Language Educator events.  She also led and became Chairperson of Chinese American Abacus Association Midwest Branch where her involvement began as cultural enrichment class at the school.  Ling joined the Michigan Chinese Women Association in 2014 and was elected President in 2017 and 2018.

 

 


Ning Wen

Board of Directors

Ning Wen has been working at Henry Ford Health System since 2007. He completed his Ph.D. degree at Wayne State University and MBA degree at the University of Michigan’s Ross School of Business. Ning has strong interests in many aspects of professionalism in medical physics including clinical care, research and education. He currently serves as the Director of Clinical Physics at Henry Ford Health System and has published more than 60 peer reviewed papers. He has been a principal investigator on a Research Scholar Grant from the American Cancer Society and co-investigator on several NIH or industry funded research grants. His current research interest is to apply supervised and semi-supervised machine learning algorithms to analyze omics data derived from medical images and cancer genome for patient risk stratification and treatment response assessment.  He also has strong passion to transform patient care with technology innovation and is leading two prospective clinical trials at his institution.
